Abstract

This article discusses the trends and outcomes of feticide followed by late termination of pregnancy (TOP) at a tertiary hospital in the UK. The study conducted a retrospective audit of 99 cases, with 70 feticides performed between 2016 and 2020, and a re-audit of 29 cases in 2023. The median number of feticides per year increased from 14 to 29, and the median gestation at feticide increased from 22+2 weeks to 24 weeks. The most common indications for TOP were neurological and cardiac abnormalities. Improved documentation was observed in the 2023 cohort, and most cases used 1% lidocaine for feticide. Complications occurred in 21% of cases, with surgical management required in some instances. The rise in feticides and late TOP may be attributed to the introduction of exome sequencing.
