Abstract

The article discusses the ecological restoration project for the Hutuo River in China's Hebei Province. The river had experienced drought, declining groundwater levels, and pollution, leading to soil degradation and sand storms. From 2017 to 2021, a restoration project was carried out, including dredging the riverbed and stabilizing the banks. Water replenishment was facilitated through the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, and the river was refilled regularly. As a result, the river has been restored to its former glory, with clear waters and an increase in bird populations. The restoration has also led to thriving industries, such as rice-crab coculture and agricultural tourism, benefiting the local economy. [Extracted from the article]
