Abstract

Anniversaries occupy an important place in the dynamics of Argentine schools. Their origin dates back to the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when they were installed by the State as tools for social cohesion and construction of a homogeneous national identity. Currently, didactics discusses their link with the disciplinary teaching of Social Sciences, as well as their capacity to generate new meanings. In this framework, October 12th is a key date by which different readings of the past are called into question. "Day of race," which was established in 1917, has been historically approached from the European perspective of discovery. Within a framework of different claims, its name was changed in 2010, when it became the "Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity", thus opening the door to new meanings and possible approaches. This article aims to delve into the ways in which the October 12th anniversary is worked on in two institutions in the south of Córdoba: one at Preschool and the other at the Primary Level. We seek to identify the links between the commemoration and teaching discipline, the sense of identity that is put into play, and the place given to regional history in the reconstruction of the past.
