Abstract

Nano hollow Graphene Oxide (nHGO) is a carbon-based hollow nanoparticle that provides an alternative pathway for graphene utilization due to its unique properties such as a large specific surface area and low-cost production. nHGO can be applied in catalysis, absorption, solar energy, fuel cell, and others. The synthesis of nHGO from graphene oxide (GO) was initiated by dispersing GO in ammonia and forming an emulsion and hollow using olive oil. The obtained nHGO were characterized by XRD, FTIR, and TEM instruments. The XRD results show the characteristics of nHGO at an angle of 2θ=24° as a main peak and a peak with low intensity appears at 2θ=42°, then the FTIR results show that the nHGO surface has an epoxy group (C-O-C) that appears at a wave number of 1148 cm−1, a carbonyl functional group (C=O) from a carboxylic acid group (COOH) whose peak appears at 1736.9 cm−1, C-H bonds of aromatic rings at wave number 723.1 cm−1 and C-H bonds of alkanes appear at absorptions of 2855 and 2922 cm−1. Furthermore, TEM data show that hollows are formed with an average nHGO particle size of 50 nm and an average diameter of 6.5 nm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
