Abstract

Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) is cultivated as a sugar-producing crop. To increase the productivity of sugarcane crops, namely by producing quality and tested sugarcane seeds by paying attention to the way of cultivation. In the phase of sugarcane growth, germination is one of the initial stages that need to be considered in the cultivation of sugarcane crops. Good germination will provide the foundation for the growth of sugarcane crops. Therefore, in this study, germination tests were carried out on sugarcane varieties in the final planting month using cuttings of one bud (bud chips). The purpose of this study is to determine the morphology of germination in each commercial sugarcane variety, find out the factors that affect the germination process, and know the good germination of varieties in the final planting month of each sugarcane variety. This experiment was conducted in the Research and Development PT. Gunung Madu Plantations in September-December 2021 using a Randomized Group Design. There are 2 test varieties, namely GMP6, and GM118. Each bud chips planted is planted using individual teknik with a distance between bud chips of 30 cm and covered with earth. The morphological parameters of germination in sugarcane observed are the length of the roots of the cuttings, the length of the roots of the shoots, the length of the shoots, the number of leaves, and the number of sapling populations. Observations were made until the 45th day after planting. The results showed that the morphology of each commercial variety varies greatly and the germination process in sugarcane begins with the formation of cutting roots accompanied by bud elongation, the emergence of eophiles and leaves, the emergence of root shoots and saplings influenced by extenal factors, namely rainfall factors and potential varieties GMP6 have a good germination process based on the observed parameters.
