Abstract

According to the BPS survey, 70% of the rural population of Indonesia is comprised of farmers. This necessitates the availability of vast quantities of fertilizers. Based solely on 2015 data, Indonesia requires fertilizer imports from other countries to reach 6,859.2 tons. In contrast, waste is a worldwide issue that must also be resolved. In actuality, organic waste, particularly leaves, can be used as a component in the production of compost. Compost creation involves a microbial decomposition process. The level of microbial activity (microorganisms) is determined by a number of parameters, including temperature and humidity. This study intends to investigate the effect of homogeneity, temperature, and humidity in the composter on the decomposition rate of compost. Internet of Things (IoT)-based equipment and image processing will be used to monitor the composter box conditions in real time over the internet network in order to improve the monitoring process and the computer's efficiency. The conventional composter was transformed into a smart composter by building a monitoring device with a thermal image sensor so that the mixing of compost fertilizer became better so that it became a new innovation in the environmental management process.
