“Why do you think we look away?” Centering Humanity in Conversations about Economic Disparity.

The article examines the use of critical conversation that centers on humanity by a middle school language arts teacher to foster civil discourse and challenge dehumanizing thought process. Topics discussed include the frameworks of critical literacy and sociocultural theories of reading used in the study, the methodology used in the study, and the importance for students to experience critical listening and critical discussions that acknowledge all members of society.
