This paper analyzes the challenges faced in adopting agile project management practices for complex systems and materials for military use. The research was developed using a particular case study, with data collection performed through document analysis and questionnaires to members of a military organization of the Brazilian Army’s science, technology, and innovation system. In this context, it was possible to identify some obstacles to adopting the agile approach in the management of military projects, the main ones being the change in culture and resistance to change, as the members of the organization are more adherent to the PMBoK® guide. The work’s main contribution is the discussion of the agile approach to project management in the context of the Brazilian Armed Forces, especially in the management of complex systems and materials projects for military use in the Brazilian Army.
