Abstract
- A preliminary study has applied the charcoal rambutan as an adsorbent to adsorb the dissolved Cu(II) ions in water. The idea to increase the adsorption ability, the adsorbent was synthesized by modifying the surface characteristics used nitric acid as a chemical agent. The 100/200 mesh of charcoal rambutan has been modified by mixing with HNO3 1 M, with a shaker at 150 rpm for 240 minutes. Then cleansed with water until constant pH and dried in an oven at a temperature of 55–60 °C. The carbon rambutan surface characteristic of the adsorbent before and after modification was analyzed by SEM and EDX. The results have some chemical content on the surface that has been removed after modification and the difference in the surface area. FTIR was used to analyze functional groups based on the spectrum of wavenumber after and before modification. The ability to adsorb the dissolve 70 ppm copper ions has increased from 47.78 % to 78,29 % after activation. The results on surface characteristics are to support its potential as an adsorbent in removing metal ions from aqueous solutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
