Abstract

The Belgian Salpingidae are small elongated or long-oval beetles measuring 1,5 to 5,2 mm. They are usually glossy black or brown, sometimes with a reddish-brown head and pronotum. Larvae, as well as imagos, live behind the bark of dead deciduous and coniferous trees and in the galleries of bark beetles. This small beetle family counts about 350 species worldwide. In Europe, 19 species are known. In this article, the 11 Belgian species are discussed with attention to their breeding trees and their distribution. Not much is known about their way of life.
