Abstract

The article discusses a 2024 retrospective study on risk factors for hospitalized urinary tract infections (UTI) among new users of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) in nursing homes (NH). Results show that female sex, UTI history, and catheter use were risk factors. Also noted is the need for caution in SGLT2is prescriptions to multimorbid older patients, specially for females with UTI or catheter use history to avoid hospitalizations.
