Abstract

Interests in doing a degree in engineering is waning. There are several reasons as to why this is occurring from one blaming the low entry point salary for a fresh engineering graduate to the fact that some high-school leavers are more interested in the gig economy. Whatever the reason, it is undeniable that the engineering profession as well as the needing of engineers will never wane, thus there is a need for those of us who can, should continue to enhance awareness about engineering as a viable, lucrative and sustainable profession to those in high-school, enhancing their interest in the subject matter. To further peak this interest, an attempt was made to develop an engaging programme, which involved a succinct and quick design and build experience to show prospective students what studying engineering is all about. The programme was developed with this in mind and at the end of it, close to 25% of all participants indicated an interest in engineering upon the end of the programme (a growth of 15% which was found from a survey done prior to the programme starting). This paper aims to share how this programme was developed and the results of the survey from the programmes participants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
