Abstract
- This article, published in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, explores the relationship between head size and high frequency hearing in mammals. The authors conducted a study using audiograms from various species and found that smaller heads were associated with higher frequency hearing. They also observed that hearing above 32 kHz was uniquely mammalian. The findings suggest that the ability to localize sounds is important for survival and may have driven the evolution of mammalian ear specializations. The article also discusses the relationship between sound localization and visual acuity. [Extracted from the article]
