Abstract

Roundabouts are a popular form of road infrastructure in Europe, but the United States has been slow to adopt them. Studies show that roundabouts improve traffic flow, decrease idling and stop-and-go traffic, and reduce vehicle emissions and fuel consumption. However, there are concerns about safety, particularly regarding rear-end collisions and accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists. Despite these concerns, roundabouts are gaining more acceptance in the US due to their environmental benefits and potential for reducing accidents. Proper planning and design are crucial for realizing the benefits of roundabouts. [Extracted from the article]
