Abstract

This article reports the discovery of a novel allele, HLA-A*24:618, during routine sequencing-based HLA typing of a 5-year-old Ecuadorian female patient with hemophagocytic lymphohistocytosis residing in New York City. The allele was identified through next-generation sequencing (NGS) and verified by laboratory personnel. The HLA haplotypes of the patient were inferred from her parents' HLA types. The novel allele, A*24:618, had a single base substitution resulting in an amino acid substitution of Serine to Tyrosine. The sequence of the allele was submitted to the GenBank and IPD-IMGT/HLA databases and assigned the accessions number OR762265 and HWS10068247, respectively. The name A*24:618 was officially assigned by the WHO Nomenclature Committee for Factors of the HLA System. The authors declare no conflicts of interest, and no datasets were generated or analyzed during the study. [Extracted from the article]
