Abstract
- This article provides information on the characteristics and diagnosis of Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS), a primary immunodeficiency disorder. It highlights that while low mean platelet volume (MPV) is typical for WAS, normal MPV values can be observed in some patients at the time of diagnosis. The article presents case reports of infants with thrombocytopenia and normal MPV values, emphasizing the importance of accurate diagnosis and distinguishing WAS from other conditions. It also discusses the potential misdiagnosis of WAS in infants with rectal bleeding and eczema, particularly when cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA) is considered. The article concludes by emphasizing the need for further research and awareness of WAS to improve diagnosis and treatment outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
