Abstract

CT scan plays an important role in clinical diagnosis by using ionizing radiation to produce images of the patient's body. However, this radiation also produces scattered radiation due to its interaction with matters, significantly increasing the doses absorbed by both radiation workers and the public. Therefore, aspects of radiation protection, such as appropriate shielding calculation and dose rate measurements, should be considered. This study aims to evaluate radiation shielding by measuring dose rates around the CT scan installation to verify the installed shielding's suitability and ensure radiation safety for both workers and the public. Evaluation data were obtained by measuring the room's dimensions with a measuring meter and determining the dose rate by using a Raysafe Unfors X2 Surveymeter. The CT scan exposure factor was set about 120 kV, 400 mA, and 6 s. The measured data were calculated and analyzed according to the Dose Lenght Product (DLP) as specified in NCRP Report 147. Subsequently, the calculated data were compared with the existing shielding. The results demonstrate that the thickness of the room walls at all measuring points exceeds the required value. The dose rate before and during exposure gives an identical reading for all measuring points, approximately <1 µSv/h. The radiation protection around the CT scan installation at RSUD dr. Wahidin Sudiro Husodo is declared safe for both radiation workers and the public. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
