Abstract

The service sector has been shown to be a key sector in the economy, with a large share in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and in the absorption of labor. Thus, the objective of this research is to verify how the workforce in the service sector is distributed among the micro-regions of the state of Paraná in the years 2000 and 2020. For this, data provided by the Instituto Paranaense de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (IPARDES) are used, referring to labor from Paraná, and applied to Location and Specialization Measures. The main results obtained showed that Public Administration is a prominent subgroup in the state and during the period of analysis, there was little change in the spatial distribution and specialization of activities in the micro-regions of Paraná. Furthermore, it was found that micro-regions with higher population concentrations tend to have a more diversified service sector, while micro-regions with lower concentrations have a higher rate of specialization in some of the activities. Finally, it was observed that the service sector is, in general, a diversified sector but of great importance for the economy of Paraná. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
