Abstract

Holcim, a global building materials company, is working to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete production. They are developing new material formulations and recycling aggregates to lower carbon emissions in construction. Holcim is using renewable and alternative fuels to power cement manufacturing and substituting lower carbon alternatives for traditional cement ingredients. Their low-carbon cement range, ECOPlanet, offers a CO₂ reduction of at least 30% compared to traditional cement. Holcim also integrates low-carbon cements into concrete innovations, such as ECOPact, which combines low-carbon cement with locally sourced materials and incorporates recycled content. Holcim's efforts aim to enhance circularity and reduce the need for new virgin components. They have also developed ECOCycle to reuse construction and demolition materials, allowing their cement, aggregates, and concrete to contain up to 100% recycled materials. Holcim's sustainable building materials have been used in projects around the world, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions and the conservation of natural resources.
