Abstract

The development and application of electrical discharge machining (EDM) has shown to be a beneficial approach when handling sophisticated materials, including superalloys like Hastelloy, Inconel 718, and Ti6Al4V. An improved version of the EDM method called powder mixed EDM hasovercome several intrinsic drawbacks (PMEDM). A thorough understanding of PMEDM, including its process dynamics, the impact of added powders or particulates (based on their nature and properties), its potential as a surface modification technique, its limitations, and opportunities for future advancements, is still elusive, making the switch from EDM to PMEDM an ongoing exploration. The development and application of EDM are beneficial when handling sophisticated materials, including superalloys like Hastelloy, Inconel 718,and Ti6Al4V. An improved version of the EDM method called powder mixed EDM has overcome several intrinsic drawbacks (PMEDM). There is still much to learn about PMEDM, includingits process dynamics, the effects of added powders or particulates (based on their nature and properties), its potential as a surface modification technique, its limitations, and future development opportunities. As a result, the transition from EDM to PMEDM is still being investigated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
