DE “ESTADISTA” A DITADOR: A REPERCUSSÃO DO EXÍLIO DE PERÓN NO PARAGUAI NAS REPRESENTAÇÕES SOBRE STROESSNER E SEU GOVERNO N’O GLOBO (1954-1955).

The aim of the article is to analyze the representations about Stroessner and his government in the Brazilian newspaper O Globo between the Paraguayan dictator presidential inauguration in August 1954 and the exile of Argentine president Juan Domingo Perón in Paraguay between October 2nd and November 2nd, 1955. Perón's exile aroused the interest of the international press and led O Globo to analyze Stroessner based on the anti-Peronism that existed in the Brazilian liberal press. For the Paraguayan opposition, it was an opportunity to denounce the authoritarianism that exists in the country. The article proposes a reading of the Stroessner dictatorship from a transnational perspective. Furthermore, it points to the existence of questions about Stroessner in the Brazilian press before the deepening of Brazil-Paraguay relations during the government of Juscelino Kubitschek (1956-1961).
