When Gene Editing Should Be Mandatory.

A commentary on the 2024 article "Reasons and Reproduction: Gene Editing and Genetic Selection," by J. McMahan and J. Savulescu is presented. It points out that declining to use gene editing on a selected embryo with a serious genetic disorder is morally wrong and should be prevented, such as in an embryo with cystic fibrosis. It suggests that the medical benefits of the gene editing treatment must outweigh the risks and that gene editing should be mandatory.
