Abstract

The issue of security and achieving a sense of safety for the population is one of the most important goals that all countries of the world, governments, and civil society organizations pursue to achieve, because of the great importance and impact of this topic on the stability of these countries and their economic, social and cultural development, where most major cities, which witnessed rapid breadth and expansion of their urban fabric, suffer from the emergence of many problems, on top of which is a crime of all kinds. This may be due to the bad methods used in spatial planning, which neglected the fulfillment of the different needs of the population. Hence, the research problem is the clarity of the relationship between spatial planning of land use and security enhancement and reducing the chances of crime in Iraqi cities. So, specify the purpose of the search to clarify the relationship between the concepts of spatial planning and urban security to reach the most important planning indicators that will enhance urban security and reduce the incidence of crimes in the future. As the research assumes: that spatial planning can have an effective role in raising the level of security and reducing crime in Iraqi cities; in order to achieve the goal of the research, the concept of urban security and security was addressed, and the spatial planning and its role in achieving urban security, and then the most important planning indicators to reduce crime were reached, which were represented by indicators next :(Population and housing density, mixing in land use, environment Residential And lighting in roads and streets). And after applying the indicators to the study area, which is the city of Baghdad, which is the largest city in recording the incidence of various crimes in Iraq, the most important results of the study were that the city of Baghdad suffers from a sharp rise in population and housing densities and an acute shortage of open and green urban spaces in the residential environment, which led to making them polluted and unsafe residential environments, in addition to the spread of public, commercial centers within the shops and residential areas. And the lack of interest in maintaining street lighting, which acts as a psychological deterrent to the criminal and prevents them from thinking about crime Where most areas of the city of Baghdad suffer from the spread of dark streets.
