Abstract

Approach slab surface pavements are constantly degrading, mostly as a result of the combined effects of the traffic volume, the environment, and the failure of the underlying layers that affect the comfort of the ride. The pavement's performance level is expressed by how well it satisfies user demands over the course of its design life. A fundamental part of any pavement management system is the prediction of the approach slab's performance level or performance decline (PMS). This study develops four sites to determine the profile of the approach surface and estimate how the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) would change over time for particular approach slab regions. The ASTM technique and micro-paver software can be used to calculate the strategy that was used for the PCI deterioration model. The comparison reveals a strong association, and the majority of the expected outcomes fall outside the measurement and interpretation error range. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
