Abstract

In this paper presents a broadband rectangular microstrip patch antenna and performance for wireless communication. In basic form, a microstrip antenna consists of a radiating patch on one side of dielectric substrate which has a ground plane on the other side. It is generally made conducting materials such as copper or gold and can make any possible shape. For radiator, rectangular patch is used widely. This rectangular microstrip patch antenna is designed for wireless communication application. It works at 2.4 GHz with gain 12 dB for outdoor areas. It is also having a wide angle of beam in radiation pattern. Several advantages of such broadband antenna, such as planar, small in size, low cost, easy fabrication, simple structure and easy practical application. The motive of this paper, to achieve lower return loss, higher gain and lower VSWR (Voltage standing wave ratio). From simulation, the return loss, gain and VSWR were found – 13.89 dB, 6.6 dBi and 1.5 respectively. In spite of this one main limitations antenna is their narrowband performance due to its resonance nature. The results obtain that microstrip patch antenna can be used as client antenna in computer and workable antenna for wireless. There is still back lobe in radiation of microstrip antenna.
