Abstract
- This article examines the portrayal of nature as home in J.R.R. Tolkien's Old Forest, specifically through the characters of Goldberry and Tom Bombadil in The Lord of the Rings. It argues that Tolkien presents nature as something mysterious and beyond human understanding, challenging anthropocentrism and offering an ecological perspective. The article discusses the evolution of ecocriticism as a field and emphasizes the importance of considering the concept of home within environmental criticism. It also explores how Tolkien's work is often analyzed through an ecological lens, as he was seen as an ecologist who reacted against industrial abuse. The characters of Goldberry and Tom Bombadil embody the idea of nature as a home and highlight the significance of understanding and protecting the environment. [Extracted from the article]
