Abstract

This article examines the historical and current challenges faced by Black communities in their pursuit of educational justice in the United States. It discusses the inequalities and anti-Black practices within the public education system, particularly exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The article explores the historical efforts of Black communities to establish and support educational systems, as well as their contemporary initiatives such as homeschooling and parental activism. It emphasizes the diverse strategies employed by Black communities to achieve educational justice and challenges the notion that there is only one clear path to success for Black students. The article draws upon Critical Race Praxis and motherwork as theoretical frameworks to analyze these efforts. [Extracted from the article]
