Abstract

In comparison to single reinforced materials, aluminum hybrid metal matrix composites offer superior mechanical and tribological capabilities. Because of the abrasive reinforcing phases that severely wear down tools, it is very difficult to machine aluminum hybrid MMCs using ordinary tool materials. Tool wears increases with increasing reinforcing in a composite. Every industrial business demands maximal material removal with minimum tool wear and surface roughness. The review of ideal machining conditions for maximizing material removal rate, minimizing tool wear rate, and minimizing surface roughness is presented in this paper. The impact of machining process parameters on performance metrics in hybrid metal machining, including material removal rate (MRR), tool wear rate, and surface roughness were studied through various literatures.
