Abstract
- A study was conducted on patients with refractory non-convulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) who exhibited a lack of efficacy during treatment with various anti-seizure medications. The patients were aged 26-72 years and had been treated with medications such as ketamine, levetiracetam, lacosamide, clobazam, valproic-acid, and phenytoin. Despite these treatments, all nine patients were hospitalized with refractory NCSE, indicating a lack of efficacy. They were then treated with IV ketamine infusion, which successfully aborted NCSE in some patients but was ineffective in others. Some patients required endotracheal intubation and subsequent treatment with midazolam. The outcomes varied, with some patients undergoing rehabilitation, some being discharged home, and two patients dying in the hospital. [Extracted from the article]
