Abstract

The article discusses the book "Hume, Justice, and Modern Political Thought," written by Maria Isabel Limongi and published by Editora Alameda in 2023. The book presents a new perspective on the philosopher David Hume, highlighting his understanding of the concept of justice as a historical, social, and political process. The author analyzes Hume's work in relation to other philosophers and commentators, such as Rawls, and highlights five key moments that reveal the importance of Hume's thinking in the formation of modern political thought. The book also discusses the relationship between the social, the political, and the legal, and how Hume introduces the concept of civil society as a starting point for politics.
