Abstract

This article discusses two cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) as a manifestation of immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) in HIV-infected patients. IRIS is characterized by a clinical deterioration due to a latent opportunistic pathogen in patients undergoing antiretroviral treatment. CL is a neglected tropical disease that occurs in French Guiana, which has a high incidence of HIV. The cases highlight the importance of recognizing and treating CL IRIS, as the parasitic load is usually low and treatment is effective. [Extracted from the article]
