Abstract

A 40-year-old woman with type-1 diabetes mellitus developed infective endocarditis (IE) secondary to Corynebacterium striatum while undergoing immunosuppressive therapy and off-label treatment for COVID-19. The woman had received a simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation and was taking prednisolone, tacrolimus, and everolimus. After being diagnosed with COVID-19, she received oxygen therapy, remdesivir, and off-label treatment with dexamethasone. Her condition worsened, and she developed septic acute respiratory distress syndrome. She was treated with antibiotics and underwent valve replacement surgery, eventually recovering and being discharged. The IE was attributed to the medications she was taking.
