Abstract

The article discusses Harvard University's decision to cancel its Stratospheric Controlled Perturbation Experiment (SCoPEx), the first proposed outdoor stratospheric aerosol injection experiment. Topics include the challenges and tensions faced in developing a governance framework for solar geoengineering, the complexities of societal engagement and communication in such research, and the need for standardized and proactive research governance to address these issues effectively.
