Abstract

This document is a letter to the editor discussing effective interventions to improve outcomes for preterm infants worldwide. The authors welcome the FIGO initiative, which promotes five simple interventions: antenatal corticosteroids, intrapartum magnesium sulfate, delayed cord clamping, early feeding with breast milk, and immediate kangaroo care. The authors emphasize the importance of cautious use of antenatal corticosteroids, as they have the potential to cause harm if applied injudiciously. They also highlight the benefits of delayed preterm cord clamping, which is seldom practiced in low-resource settings but has been shown to reduce mortality. The authors suggest implementing a similar approach to improve third stage care and incorporate recent evidence on the importance of delayed cord clamping and blood loss monitoring.
