Abstract

This article discusses the surgical management of primary hyperparathyroidism, specifically focusing on the use of minimally invasive parathyroidectomy (MIP) for solitary parathyroid adenoma. The study found that open MIP can be safely and reliably performed as a day-case procedure, with accurate pre-operative localization using ultrasound and 99m Tc-sestamibi scans optimizing the success of the surgery. The article emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary team involving various medical professionals to enable open MIP to become a routine day-case procedure. The study also highlights the low complication rates associated with MIP and the potential for same-day discharge. [Extracted from the article]
