Abstract

This article discusses a study conducted in Germany that examines the relationship between regional socioeconomic factors and the use of certain medications for adults with type 2 diabetes. The study finds that individuals in socioeconomically disadvantaged areas have lower access to newer glucose-lowering medications, such as SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1RAs. This disparity in access may contribute to socioeconomic disparities in cardiovascular health outcomes. The study suggests that further investigation into structural factors is needed to address these disparities. The study also highlights the importance of raising awareness among healthcare providers and overcoming barriers to access for newer treatment options in order to reduce inequalities.
