Abstract
- A study from the Netherlands published in BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology highlights the increasing percentage of maternal deaths due to suicide. The Netherlands has seen a rise in maternal deaths from suicide, making it the leading cause of maternal death in the country. This issue is not unique to the Netherlands, as suicide is also the most common cause of maternal death in the U.K., France, and the U.S. Improved screening and treatment for mental health conditions and substance use disorders can greatly impact maternal morbidity and mortality. Other articles in the journal discuss the non-scientific aspects of medicine, such as implementation science, patient experience, and cost-effectiveness. The emotional impact of medical interventions, the relationship between pelvic floor dysfunction and body image disturbance, and the cost-effectiveness of treatment strategies for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia are also explored. Additionally, the journal provides information on pregnancy outcomes for people with chronic kidney disease, the relationship between perineal wound complications and obstetric anal sphincter injury, the impact of hormonal contraceptives on endometriosis, the use of prophylactic ureteric catheterization during gynecologic surgery, and the prevalence of congenital eye anomalies. The issue also includes a paper on confounder selection in Obstetrics and Gynecology studies, emphasizing the importance of accurate interpretation of data. [Extracted from the article]
