Abstract

This article provides a concise summary of the life and scientific career of Roger Guillemin, a neuroendocrinologist and Nobel Prize winner in physiology or medicine. Guillemin was born in France and began his medical studies in Burgundy before moving to Montreal to work with Hans Selye. He later moved to Houston, Texas, and then to the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California. Guillemin made significant contributions to the field of neuroendocrinology, including the discovery and characterization of several important neuropeptides. He maintained strong ties with the French research community throughout his career and was known for his generosity in sharing reagents and supporting other scientists.
