Abstract

TechTrends is a research journal in the field of Instructional Design and Technology. It was originally called The Educational Screen and has since evolved into a top quartile research journal. The purpose of the journal is to link research and practice to improve learning. TechTrends publishes various types of research, including quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods, and action research. There are some common misconceptions about the journal, such as it not accepting action research or being exclusively for the AECT membership. The journal focuses on educational technology as defined by the United States Department of Education. The Editorial Board consists of members from different parts of the world, and they are responsible for reviewing manuscripts and accepting proposals for special issues. To become a reviewer, one must have a terminal degree in the field and demonstrated ability to publish research. The journal welcomes proposals for special issues, which should align with the scope of the journal and the field of instructional design and technology. The Editor-in-Chief would like to see more action research, practitioner-based research, and literature reviews in the journal. There are plans to introduce two new recurring columns in 2025, one focused on practitioners and the other for academic debate. Overall, TechTrends aims to serve the broader community in the field of Instructional Design and Technology. [Extracted from the article]
