Winners of the Gender, Place and Culture Annual International Conference Award for New and Emerging Scholars, 2024.

The Gender, Place & Culture journal has announced the winners of the Annual Award for New and Emerging Scholars. This year, the award was shared between Maria Teresa Braga Bizarria and Alexandra Lamiña. Maria Teresa's paper explores affective atmospheres of care in gender studies, focusing on urban gardens in New Zealand and the intersectional power dynamics and practices of care within them. Alexandra's paper examines the experiences of Kichwa women in Ecuadorian Amazonia and their enactment of Indigeneity in urban settings, challenging settler-mestizx urban notions.
