Abstract

A recent article in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy recommends using corticosteroids as adjuvant therapy for patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Corticosteroids can decrease the risk of complications and reduce hospital stays and antibiotic treatment duration for severe CAP cases. However, there is insufficient evidence to support the use of corticosteroids for mild cases or in patients without underlying lung disease. Further research is needed to determine the role of oral corticosteroids in different subpopulations of CAP patients. [Extracted from the article]
