Abstract

A recent study published in Scientific American reveals that domestic dogs have difficulty communicating through facial expressions compared to their wolf ancestors. The research found that dogs with exaggerated physical traits, such as floppy ears and short muzzles, were less able to express themselves through their faces. Additionally, long fur and prominent flews also obscured dogs' expressions. The study suggests that the less wolflike a dog's facial features, the weaker its ability to express emotion. This information is important for individuals who may misinterpret a dog's face, potentially leading to dangerous situations. Further research is needed to fully understand how dogs use their expressions differently from wolves. [Extracted from the article]
