Abstract
- This article discusses a rare case of a cryptococcal infection in a patient with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), a chronic liver disease. The compromised liver function and weakened immune response in PBC patients make them more susceptible to opportunistic infections like Cryptococcus. The patient in this case presented with fatigue and fever and was diagnosed with a Cryptococcus splenic abscess. Managing cryptococcal infections in PBC patients is challenging due to the impact of immunosuppression and liver function impairment on treatment plans. The article highlights the importance of personalized and comprehensive management strategies for this specific patient population. This research article, published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases in 1995, provides valuable information for library patrons researching infectious diseases and may be of interest to those in this field.
