Abstract

As cities grow in population numbers, they tend to generate more garbage. Effective waste management practices are essential for a healthy and clean environment. This paper presents a unique way of tackling Garbage Classification using customized VGG16 Convolutional Neural Networks. The model suggested was 92.96% accurate at predicting the correct outcome for each example in the test set of 8,363 images in each category consisting of various types of garbage. Using this model, a system is proposed where the image of the garbage is captured and classified accurately as "Biodegradable" or "Non-Biodegradable", aiding the user in the precise use of the proper garbage bin for disposal.
