Abstract
- Family therapy is often indicated in the treatment of adolescents with mental health difficulties. The family context is often seen as a predisposing, precipitating, perpetuating, or a protective factor for a wide range of child and adolescent mental health concerns. Several approaches to family therapy are now recognized as evidence-based treatments for different psychiatric presentations. In this article, we hope to describe the relevance of family therapy for families with adolescents in India, present case illustrations on commonly used approaches to family therapy, and propose clinical practice guidelines.
