Abstract
- Ammonia, as one of the optimal carriers for green fuels, is frequently associated with substantial carbon emissions during its production. Ammonia feedstock can be produced stably, efficiently, and without pollution by solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC), which requires in-depth research. In this work, a green ammonia feedstock with a H 2 :N 2 ratio of 3:1 is successfully produced via N 2 /H 2 O decomposition by the SOEC. The results indicates that the SOEC operates stably for 500 h, maintaining a consistent proportion of synthetic ammonia feedstock. The ammonia feedstock production rate of this method reaches 4.08 × 10−6 mol/(cm2·s), the energy conversion efficiency (ECE) ranges between 66.86 % and 70.51 %. This work offers a novel and efficient method for the synthesis of green ammonia, characterized by fast production rates, excellent stability, and high energy utilization efficiency. • The SOEC was operated stably for 500 h with degradation rate of 2.26 %/100 h. • The ammonia feedstock production rate reached to 4.08 × 10−6 mol/(cm2·s). • The energy conversion efficiency (ECE) ranges between 66.86 % and 70.51 %.
