Abstract

This article discusses a case of dermatomyositis in a 69-year-old man who was later diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. The article emphasizes the challenges in diagnosing and treating dermatomyositis when there is an underlying malignancy, and stresses the importance of thorough screening for malignancies in patients with dermatomyositis. It also mentions the association between anti-TIF1-γ antibodies and malignancies in dermatomyositis. The text suggests that dysphagia may be a useful clinical sign in diagnosing dermatomyositis and that cases with vesicular rash are generally associated with malignancies. The article discusses the use of steroids and IVIG as treatments for dermatomyositis and the potential use of 18F-FDG PET-CT as a screening test for malignancies. It highlights the challenges in diagnosing and treating malignancies in patients with dermatomyositis and emphasizes the need for aggressive screening for malignancies in older patients with anti-TIF-1γ antibody-positive dermatomyositis.
