Abstract

This article examines the impact of media attention on the interest in oral minoxidil (OM) as a treatment for hair loss among English and non-English speaking patients. The study conducted a retrospective chart review of prescription orders for hair loss patients seen at dermatology clinics affiliated with the University of Miami. The results showed a significant increase in the proportion of OM prescriptions for English language preferring (ELP) patients 6 months after the media attention, but no significant increase for non-English language preferring (NELP) patients. The study suggests that media influence on patient education may vary based on language preferences. [Extracted from the article]
