Abstract

The Joint Business Group (KUBE) for Batik Orchid in Tegal City, Indonesia is a home industry that produces hand-drawn batik products. Hand-drawn batik products as one of the local resources need to be developed to increase the welfare and income index of the local community. The process of making written batik requires a high level of accuracy and a long time. The research focused on one of the colet batik coloring jobs which had a level of complaints of Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSDs) on the back. Colet batik coloring is done by scratching a brush on the fabric. The purpose of this study was to assess body posture so as to create a natural posture and reduce musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). The research method uses Quick Exposure Check (QEC), which is to analyze the posture of the back, shoulders/arms/wrist and neck. The results of the research on coloring batik colet for sitting posture obtained an average exposure score of 101 and an exposure level of 62.43% (indicating the action level of sitting position coloring needs further research and changes). Alternative improvements to reduce the level of exposure is to design the table to be higher (from 50 cm high to 85 cm, adjust to the dimensions of the waist height of the batiker). Alternative improvements to reduce the exposure level value is to design a higher table so that the working posture is standing. The results of the implementation of colet batik coloring using a table for standing posture obtained an average exposure score of 79 and an exposure level of 48.68% (showing that the action level has decreased and needs further research). Researchers suggest doing variations of sitting to standing movements to reduce musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) by adjusting the height of the table to produce a better and natural posture and reducing monotonous movements from sitting (static) to standing and walking (dynamic) so that batik coloring is faster and easier.
