Abstract

Purpose: To analyze the influence of interpersonal trust (IT) on organizational citizenship behaviors (OCB). Design/methodology/approach: The research is classified as descriptive, quantitative approach and research strategy is a survey. With that, 352 individuals, from 41 IT companies in Brazil, mostly from Rio Grande do Sul, participated in the research. Research, Practical & Social Implications: The results revealed a positive influence of IT on OCB, which means that the more workers perceive interpersonal trust at work, the more likely they are to be involved in OCB. Thus, this empirical evidence can allow managers to broaden their understanding of the behavior of their employees, so that they can encourage the development of discretionary behaviors in the organization, and may even improve individual and organizational performance. This study presents a theoretical-empirical advance by addressing the influence of IT, as an antecedent, on OCBs in the IT sector. Originality/value: The IT and the OCB favor working relationships, which can have a positive impact on the organizational context.
